For today’s Inspired By post we are talking to Tia Thomas of Love & Light jewels. Love and Light Jewels is a spiritually healing jewelry line, dedicated to beautiful, soul-filled pieces, made with intention and purpose by Tia Thomas. See our conversation below.
What motivated you start Love and Light Jewels?
Love & Light Jewels was actually born by surprise! A couple years ago, when I started my Image & Wellness Consulting business, I decided that I’d give each client a token of my appreciation. I wanted this little gift to serve as a beautiful reminder of our incredible process together. I am a crafty, artsy person by nature, I decided to hand make beaded bracelets. I love the idea of hand made gifts. I feel that they hold more meaning and sentiment. I chose to make these bracelets out of the gemstone amethyst because purple is my favourite colour and it is the representative colour of business. When I started to learn more about the powerful healing properties of this gemstone, it attracted me to it even more.
With every bracelet given, I would get wonderful feedback. I’d constantly hear things like… “This bracelet is so beautiful! When I wear it, I feel great. Where can I get another one”? I was convinced that there was a higher purpose for these bracelets. They were not only pretty to wear, but they were healing as well.
I decided to expand my business and open a small Etsy shop, where people outside my client base could go to purchase their own healing amethyst bracelets. As my interest in gemstones and crystals grew, Love & Light Jewels was born.
What’s been your most important lesson in business?
The most important lesson I’ve learned in business is that not everyone will believe in and support you the way you’d hope they would. That doesn’t mean you should give up on your passion or your purpose. Even when you are not seeing the financial benefit from your business right away, don’t give up or allow others to discourage you. Keep a firm belief in the fact that you are on the right path, and the income will come. That’s a promise.
What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of the fact that I haven’t given up. There have been many obstacles that have come my way and many times when I was almost convinced to quit and get a conventional “job” like every else. But, I’m determined to fulfill my purpose and keep pushing forward with my goals. I have to acknowledge myself for that.
Who/What inspires you?
Art and creativity inspires me. Self and universal love inspires me. Nature and animals inspires me. And lastly, anyone that strives to achieve enlightenment, discovers their purpose and uses it to service others inspires me.
What is your favourite quote/motto?
“I have a deeply hidden and articulate desire for something beyond the daily life.” ~ Virginia Wolf
What helps you keep going on days you want to quit?
Being focused on my “WHY” and asking myself whether I see me happier doing something else. Your ego will always try to talk you out of what you are destined to do. It will try to apply the “fear factor” and threaten your self-confidence. But for me, even in the toughest of times, I find a way to bring my mind and focus, back to why I started this business and what I believe I can achieve.
What advice do you have for someone who would like to start a similar venture?
For someone who is considering starting a handmade jewelry line, I’d first congratulate them! It’s a beautiful thing to be able to create with your hands and heart. Sharing your craft with the world is nothing short of a blessing. Don’t be discouraged by how many jewelry designers there are out there, because their designs are not like yours. You have something unique and special to share with the world, so do that with confidence knowing that someone out there is waiting to enjoy what you’ve made.
What’s “the” one product we need to check out?
I’d have to say the “Centered & Grounded” Smoky Quartz and Crystal Mala Necklace is definitely a must see! It’s a simple yet stunning piece that is designed to help keep you centred and grounded, while bringing forth serenity, calmness and positive thoughts.
How do you balance life and work?
Balancing life and work is sometimes a challenge. It takes a lot of discipline for me because I work from home, so there is always something that needs to be done. As an Entrepreneur, Mother and Wife, I often find myself juggling my business tasks, laundry, dishes, and meals all at the same time. When it gets to the point where I feel like I’m too distracted with household duties and unproductive with my business work, I relocate my “office” for the day and work from Starbucks or a quiet spot in my local library. I also try my best to schedule my work time and family time equally.
